For this event we are partnering with renowned local chef Tristan Welch at the University Arms Hotel.
Tristan is designing a special menu for us to enjoy in the exclusive Crick & Watson room and we are pairing each dish with wines from Piemonte!
The evening will demonstrate the sort of food that pairs well with Barolo, Barbera, Dolcetto, Arneis and Moscato d'Asti. Tristan has created a menu to suit adding his own inimitable twist and between courses your wine host will entertain you with snippets of information about the wines and the food pairing decisions.
Tristan trained under Gary Rhodes and Michel Roux Jr before landing his first Head Chef role at five-star Glenapp Castle in Scotland. From there he became head chef at Gordon Ramsay’s Petrus and then his own restaurant Launceston Place. Last year he returned to Cambridge to open Parker's Tavern.
Our wines for the evening come from Alessandro Locatelli, owner and producer at Rocche Costamagna, a 14 hectare estate based in La Morra in the Barolo region. Alessandra's family has been growing vines since 1841 and he makes both Barolo and a Barolo Cru from the Rocche Annunziata vineyard. We can try his 2015 wines, a vintage where everything fell seamlessly into place with growers commenting that you had to try hard to get it wrong. Rarely does Barolo give such an easy ride.
We will compare Rocche Castamagna's Barbera and Dolcetto with the starter. This is an opportunity to see how Piemonte's 'other' grapes offer flexible choices when pairing certain foods.
With the main course we will serve the 2015 Barolo and Barolo Cru.
To reserve your spaces please book online paying £50 deposit per person. Nearer the time we will contact you to collect the £40 balance per place. Price includes all wines and service charge.
