Wine Inspired Gins!
Wine and gin? Yes, you heard right.
In this modern world of small batch craft gin producers, various experiments exploring the crossover between wine and gin have begun.
At this tasting we''ll discover results from gins made in a variety of ways. First, there is a little-known tradition, common in certain parts of the old wine world, where a spirit is distilled from leftover grape skins to be enjoyed exclusively by the winemaker and his vineyard staff (actually used to happen a lot!). Today interesting gins are made this way, infused with juniper and other botanicals but still carrying a unique character from their grapey origins.
Then there are gins infused with flavour from ingredients such as Muscat grapes. Or gins made by steeping a base spirit in Shiraz grapes, pressing and then blending in more gin. Or gins that have been barrel aged in Chardonnay casks or Sherry barrels - it's all here for you to explore!
We'll sample gins from England, Australia, Spain and Germany in our search for the perfect wine-inspired gin! All the gins are available to buy locally so you can use this as an excuse to find a new favourite!
- Chapel Down Bacchus Gin
- Four Pillars Bloody Shiraz Gin
- Four Pillars Barrel Aged Chardonnay Cask Gin
- Norde Gin (made from Albarino)
- Ferdinand's Saar Dry Gin (with added Riesling)
- Foxhole London Dry Gin
During the session we'll taste and explore each individual gin in its neat form before opening up the flavours further with some good quality tonic and then again with specially selected garnishes.
The tasting will include your very own DIY fruit plate to garnish each gin.
This tasting is great for gin lovers and anyone who wants to find out more about gin.
All our tastings include tasting notes, a tutored tasting and the use of professional tasting glasses.
