Champagne & Sparkling Wine (plus Fish & Chips)
Come enjoy a decadent evening of fine sparkling wine at the Cambridge Brew House! This tasting explores 6 different types of sparkling wine with a fish & chip supper (£14 paid separately) - a chance to try a most spectacular food and wine pairing (see below for details)!
For many people the glass of fizz at the start of the meal is among the most enjoyable drink of the evening. These wines are crafted by the wine maker and the processes involved in making the sparkle is key. We will try different Champagne look-a-likes from around the world (e.g. Cava, Prosecco) and compare Champagne with English Sparkling Wine!
We will learn about the historical method that gives us the most beautiful bubbly and look at the terms on the labels (e.g. 'NV', 'Brut' and 'Blanc de Blanc') and what these actually tell us about the wine inside the bottle. But the world of sparkling wine is far more diverse than Champagne alone - we will also examine other wines made in the same way and ask 'are they as good?'
Soon after the evening starts the restaurant staff will bring in a plate of fish and chips (or vegetarian alternative). Champagne with deep fried food is a classic food and wine pairing that simply must be experienced! You can sample your plate with at least 3 wines to vote for the best match.
