FRANCE v NEW WORLD - Pinot Noir & Chardonnay
An evening focusing on two of the world's best loved grape varieties!
We will taste wines from Burgundy and Champagne, both classic regions in France for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, and then compare them with wines from New World regions like Australia, Chile and California made using the same grapes!
Whether you think you generally prefer Old World or New World wines, you may be surprised! We will taste some wines 'blind' (with the bottles covered to make the comparison fair) and then see if we can discover clues in the flavours and aromas of the wine that give the country of origin away! No previous wine tasting experience required - just come and join in the fun and develop your tasting skills.
Burgundy in France produces some of the world's best Chardonnays and Pinot Noir, but countries like Australia, Chile and North America are at last catching up. Which do you prefer? After each comparison we will vote for the best before all is revealed - like our own Judgement of Paris! *
(*In 1976 the Judgement of Paris was organised by British wine merchant Steven Spurrier and later became famous as the tasting that changed the world. Steven organised a panel of French wine experts to 'blind' taste an array of French wines against Californian equivalents. The judges were themselves shocked to find how many Californian wines scored top marks).
